SGA Meeting
Director of the Writing Center Dr. Deborah Reese welcomed the SGA as they assembled on Monday, March 31. There was an array of appetizers, from a fruit platter to mini meatballs, and free writing center t-shirts.
Reese wanted to "thank [them] immensely for all [their] help throughout the years." She said, "SGA has been very kind to us in the years … and this is just a small gesture of appreciation" to thank the SGA for all the financial support in the past.
Donnette Ansah, graduate assistant for the writing center, was also in attendance and helped Reese distribute the t-shirts and made sure that each SGA member received their writing center t-shirt.
At 12:23 p.m., SGA Vice President Alex Collins and Director of Student Activities Al Harris announced that they did not have quorum, therefore no business would be conducted.
Harris said, "We anticipated this because of the death of Dr. Sharyn Gibson," many SGA members were attending her funeral. Gibson was the Dept. Head of Radiologic Sciences in the AASU Health Professions Dept. Also, Chris Nowicki is in Washington, D.C., attending a National 4-H Leadership Conference.
Announcements
Harris announced that there would not be a re-vote for the treasurer's position. This decision was made "due to an error on [Zerik Samples'] part... [he] didn't have enough hours for the position."
Although Samples had 58 hours, only 13 of them were completed at AASU. In order to run for the treasurer's position, one must complete at least 15 hours at AASU before they can run for an executive position. Samples is eligible for the senate position; however, the elections have already passed. Harris stated that Somi Benson-Jaja may appoint him to a senate position upon a vacancy.
Treasurer Anna Mach read another thank you letter to the SGA Senate, which was sent to the finance committee from the International Office. She also announced that the Campus Union Board (CUB) will be hosting an event with poet Paul Dean in the MCC this Thursday, April 4, at 8 p.m.
There will be an Awards Committee Meeting this Thursday, April 4, in Dr. Vicki McNeil's office.
This ended the announcements and the SGA meeting was adjourned at 12:28 p.m.
